Yes, We Install Bidet Seats and Smart Toilets Across Sydney
The compliance question is simpler than it used to be.
During Covid, the toilet paper shortages got a lot of people thinking about bidets, and in April 2020 the ACCC warned that bidet products installed by unlicensed people could be connected to the drinking water supply without the right backflow protection (ACCC Product Safety: supplying and installing bidet products).
Since then, more Australians have travelled to Japan, used heated washing toilet seats in hotels, restaurants and convenience stores, and come home wanting one.
Compliant bidet seats are now sold in Australia, including the National N2000 and the InteliSeries, which both have WaterMark listings, along with Roca Multiclean, Tudaloo and Toto, the brand you saw in every hotel bathroom in Japan. That is why bidet seats and smart toilets have become an ordinary request across Sydney rather than an unusual one.
Do I Need a Plumber for Bidet Installation in Sydney?
Yes. Connecting a bidet seat or a smart toilet to your water supply is plumbing work, and in NSW you need a licence to do any plumbing work, whatever the cost of the work (NSW Government: plumbing, draining and gasfitting licences). When the work is finished, the plumber completes a certificate of compliance and gives a copy to the person who arranged the work (NSW Government: plumbing inspection documents). Keep it with your property records.
Plumbing work across Australia is covered by the Plumbing Code of Australia, which is Volume Three of the National Construction Code. That is why licensed bidet installation matters: the seat connects to the same water you drink. When you compare bidet installers, ask for their plumbing licence number and whether they issue a certificate of compliance.
Does a Bidet Seat Need WaterMark Certification in Australia?
Yes. Bidet douche seats are listed on the WaterMark Schedule of Products, and the Australian Building Codes Board says a product of a listed type must be WaterMark certified before it can be installed and must be installed by a licensed plumbing practitioner. It is legal to sell a bidet seat that is not certified, including online, but a licensed plumber is not permitted to install it.
Each WaterMark listing includes a scope of use, and for the seats we install it records how the seat protects the water supply. The listings for the National N2000, the InteliClean AIR PLUS and the InteliWash PLUS record an integral air gap, and the InteliClean Air Series records an integral break tank with an air gap. If you are buying a seat yourself, search the WaterMark product database by brand or model before you order it.

Bidet Seats for Hygiene and Independence in Accessible Bathrooms
A bidet seat allows better hygiene for anyone who finds wiping difficult. For a person with limited reach, mobility or grip, a seat that washes with water at the press of a button means they can stay clean on their own, without twisting or reaching behind. A 2024 scoping review in the journal Innovation in Aging found that older adults who used bidets appreciated the increased privacy and independence, and that carers spent less time helping with toileting, although the authors say larger studies are still needed (Technology-Assisted Toileting by Older Adults: A Scoping Review of Bidet Use).
If an occupational therapist, physiotherapist, case manager or other allied health professional has recommended a bidet seat, send us their report and we will work to it. A bidet seat can be one part of a safer bathroom, alongside grab rails, a raised height toilet and lever taps, and our accessible plumbing page covers all of them. We do this work across Sydney.
Bidet Seat and Smart Toilet Options for Sydney Homes
Brand choice and installation are two separate questions, and the installation is the part we can always answer. Whatever seat you choose, the connection to the water supply is the licensed part, and that is the part we do.
If you have already bought a bidet seat yourself, including a Toto, we can install it for you and certify the work. Have a word with Rueben about the model before it arrives, so he can look at your water connection, the space behind the pan and whether there is power on that wall, and tell you how it will fit at your place.
If you would rather we supplied the seat as well, we supply and install the National N2000 and the InteliSeries seats, and Rueben can explain which one suits your toilet and bathroom.

The Bidet Seats and Smart Toilets We Install
These are the bidet seats and smart toilets we see most often, from the simplest retrofit through to a complete integrated unit. The right one depends on your bathroom as much as your budget, so the practical notes matter more than the feature lists.
National N2000 Bidet Seat
The National N2000 is an electric bidet seat sold in Australia by the wholesaler InteliCorp. Its WaterMark listing describes a wash and dry function with a heated seat and a remote control, in three seat shapes: round, elongated and U-shaped. The choice of shapes makes it easier to match the seat to your toilet pan. It needs a power point near the toilet. InteliCorp publishes a product guide for the N2000 with the brochure and manuals.
InteliSeries Bidet Seats: InteliWash, InteliClean and InteliCare
The InteliSeries is a range of bidet seats sold by InteliCorp, made up of the InteliWash, InteliClean and InteliCare. Several models have active WaterMark listings. The InteliClean Air Series is listed with heated water, an air dryer, a heated seat and deodorisation, and the InteliWash PLUS is listed with a wash and dry function, a heated seat and a remote control. The InteliCare is listed with a wash and dry function and a solid bariatric detachable seat, which is worth knowing if the seat needs to carry more weight. These are electric seats, so they also need a power point near the toilet. InteliCorp’s InteliCare product guide has the manuals.
Toto Washlet Bidet Seat
If you have been to Japan and loved the toilets, this is almost certainly what you used. Toto is the dominant brand in Japanese bathrooms, hotels, airports and convenience stores, and the Washlet is what turned the heated toilet seat from a novelty into something Australians come home wanting. If you are specifically after a Toto, call us and we will explain where things stand. In the meantime, the Tudaloo Pro covers similar ground on features and compliance.
Tudaloo Flow: A Non-Electric Bidet Seat
The Tudaloo Flow runs on mains water pressure alone, with no batteries, no power outlet and nothing to program. Dual check backflow prevention is built into the unit. The water is unheated, so think about that before you choose it, but for an entry-level upgrade on your existing toilet without an electrician involved, this is where most conversations start.
Tudaloo Pro: The Japanese Bidet Experience on Your Existing Toilet
The Tudaloo Pro is electric, with instant on-demand water heating, adjustable water and seat temperature, front and rear wash modes, a self-cleaning antibacterial nozzle, a soft close lid, an activated carbon deodoriser, a stainless steel hose and integrated backflow prevention. The Pro Plus adds a sensor-opening lid, and the first water filter is included.
Check one thing before you commit: it needs a power outlet near the toilet, and a lot of bathrooms do not have one. If you are renovating, have the socket put in while the wall is open.
Roca Multiclean: A European Bidet Seat With Fixed Controls
The Roca Multiclean has a similar feature set to the Tudaloo Pro: heated water, adjustable wash modes, an oscillating and pulsating nozzle, air dry, a SoftClose seat, an energy saving mode and a self-cleaning nozzle. The difference is that the controls sit on a fixed panel rather than a remote. It also needs a power outlet near the toilet.
Tudaloo Halo: A Full Smart Toilet for a Bathroom Renovation
The Halo is not a retrofit seat. It is a complete one-piece smart toilet with an auto lid, auto flush, heated seat, customisable wash and dry, and a built-in deodoriser. It belongs in a bathroom you are already renovating, or where you are replacing the whole pan. Fitting a smart seat to an old pan in a brand new bathroom is a compromise, and the Halo avoids it.

When a Bidet Seat Installation Needs an Extra Step First
There are a couple of situations where something has to happen before the bidet installation itself, and it is better to hear about them now than on the day.
- No power outlet near the toilet: electric bidet seats and smart toilets need one, so an electrician goes in ahead of the bidet installation. Plenty of older bathrooms have nothing at all on that wall.
- Unusually low water pressure: a non-electric bidet seat relies on your mains pressure for the wash, so where the pressure at the property is low, the wash will feel weaker than you expect. We can check the pressure while we are there and explain what you will get.
The Tudaloo Flow works on standard mains pressure and is usually the answer where power is the sticking point, because it takes the electrician out of the picture altogether.
Bidet Installation Services in Sydney
A standard bidet seat installation on an existing toilet goes like this.
- Water off: before the bidet seat goes in, the water is turned off at the stop tap beside the toilet.
- Old seat off: the current toilet seat comes off and the mounting plate from the bidet fitting kit goes on.
- Water feed: a T connector goes in at the stop tap, so the bidet seat gets its own feed and the cistern keeps its own.
- Seat on: the bidet seat clips onto the plate and the hose connects it to the new feed.
- Testing: the water goes back on and every connection on the installed bidet is checked for leaks. An electric seat gets plugged in and its wash and heat settings are tested.
When the bidet installation is finished, the plumber issues a Plumbing Certificate of Compliance for the work.
Can You Install a Bidet Seat on an In-Wall Cistern Toilet?
Usually, yes, but it takes more planning. With an in-wall cistern, the cistern is hidden in the wall and the stop tap sits behind the flush plate, not beside the pan. That means there is often no water connection where a bidet seat needs one.
Sometimes a new water point can go in near the pan. Sometimes it makes more sense to do it as part of a bathroom update. If your cistern is in the wall, mention it when you call Rueben, so he knows to look at it when he checks your existing plumbing.
Installing a Smart Toilet in a Sydney Bathroom Renovation
If you are renovating, this is the easiest time to install a smart toilet. The walls are open, so the power point and the water connection can go exactly where the toilet needs them.
When the toilet is part of a full bathroom renovation , it can be planned in from the start rather than fitted around a finished wall.
The Tudaloo Halo is a complete toilet rather than a seat, so it goes in when the old pan comes out. If you would rather put a bidet seat on a new toilet, check the seat suits the new pan shape before both are ordered.
Bidet Seat or Standalone Bidet: Which Should You Install?
For most homes across Greater Sydney, a bidet installation means a bidet seat. A toilet bidet, or bidet seat, fits the toilet you already have. It replaces your toilet seat, takes its water from the stop tap beside the toilet and needs no extra floor space, which suits a small bathroom or an ensuite.
A standalone bidet is a separate bowl that sits beside the toilet. It needs its own water supply and its own waste pipe, so it is a bathroom renovation item rather than a quick install. If you want one, bring it up while the renovation is being planned, because the pipes go in before the walls and floor are finished.
What to Check Before You Book a Bidet Installation in Sydney
Before you get a bidet installed, it helps to check these:
- Pan shape: is the bowl round or elongated? The bidet seat has to match it.
- Power: is there a power point on the wall near the toilet? Electric bidet seats and smart toilets need one.
- Stop tap: is there a tap on the wall beside the toilet, or is the cistern hidden in the wall? A bidet seat takes its water from that tap.
- WaterMark: if you are buying the bidet seat yourself, is the model listed on the WaterMark product database?
Mention what you found when you call Rueben, and he can check the rest when he looks at your plumbing.
After Your Bidet Installation in Sydney
Many electric seats clean their own nozzle, but the seat and lid still need a wipe like any toilet seat. If your model has a water filter, the manual says how often to change it.
If a hose or connection ever starts to weep, turn off the stop tap beside the toilet and call Rueben on 0468 014 771. There is someone on call 24/7. For other toilet problems, see our toilet repairs in Sydney page.
