Accessible Bathroom Fixtures We Install To Help With Mobilty
If you are not sure which of these the bathroom needs, tell us who uses it and what they find hard, and we will explain the options.
Bidet Seats for Hygiene and Independence
A bidet seat allows better hygiene for someone who finds wiping difficult. For a person with limited reach, mobility or grip, cleaning themselves after using the toilet can be the hardest part of going on their own. A bidet seat washes with water from a nozzle under the seat, controlled from a side panel or a remote, so the person can stay clean without twisting or reaching behind.
Two widely installed seats we supply and install are the National N2000 and the InteliSeries, both sold in Australia by the wholesaler InteliCorp. The N2000 is an electric bidet seat with a heated seat, a wash and dry function and a remote control, and it comes in round, elongated and U-shaped seats to suit different toilet pans.
The InteliSeries includes the InteliWash, InteliClean and InteliCare seats.

Bathroom Grab Rails for Safer Showering and Toileting
A grab rail is only useful where the person’s hand actually reaches, so the position depends on how they move rather than on a standard layout. Rails usually go beside the toilet, at the shower entry and inside the shower. Each rail has to be fixed into something solid behind the tiles, such as the wall framing, timber backing or masonry, because wall sheeting on its own is not built to carry a person’s weight. We fit grab rails with or without an occupational therapist assessment, including a single rail on its own, and we work to the OT’s report when there is one. Our bathroom grab rails page covers placement, tiled walls and rentals in more detail.
Raised Height Toilets for Easier Sitting and Standing
A raised height toilet suite sits higher off the floor than a standard pan, so there is less distance to lower yourself and less effort to stand back up. Replacing a toilet suite is licensed plumbing work in NSW, and the new suite has to line up with the existing waste and water connections or have them adjusted. The right height depends on the person, so where an occupational therapist has written a recommendation, we work to it. A raised height toilet can also take a bidet seat, as long as the seat suits the shape of the pan. Our raised height toilets page explains the options.
Occupational Therapists and Allied Health Professionals: Referring a Client for Accessible Plumbing
If you are an occupational therapist working with clients anywhere in Sydney, you can refer a client to Blue Rhino Plumbing for the plumbing and bathroom work in your home modification report.
Email your written recommendations and measurements to plumbing@thebluerhino.com with the client’s address and a contact number for the client or their family.
Physiotherapists, case managers and other allied health professionals can refer a client or send a report in the same way, and we will work to it. Photos of the bathroom help us check the fixtures, the wall construction and the waste positions before we visit.
We work to your written recommendations and measurements, including grab rail positions and heights, the toilet height, and the bidet seat and tapware you have specified. We can supply the fixtures in your report, or fit products the client has already bought. If something in the report will not work in the bathroom as it is built, for example because of where a waste pipe or the wall framing sits, we will explain why and talk through the options with you and the client before anything changes.
Because we are plumbers and bathroom builders, we can install the fixtures on their own, or renovate the whole bathroom when your assessment shows that new fixtures will not give the client safe access.

Renovating the Bathroom When Fixtures Alone Will Not Make It Safe
Sometimes the existing bathroom cannot be made safe with rails and new fixtures. A shower with a step-over hob, a bath the person can no longer climb into, or a room too tight to turn around in are examples where fixtures only go so far. In that case we can renovate the bathroom.
Blue Rhino Plumbing is a licensed bathroom builder, and we handle the full scope, from demolition and waterproofing through to tiling, fixtures and final fit-off, so you are not coordinating separate trades.
Our bathroom renovation page explains how we plan and quote a renovation.
Arranging Accessible Plumbing for a Parent or Family Member
If you are organising bathroom changes for a parent or someone you care for, you can make the enquiry on their behalf. Tell us who uses the bathroom, what they find hard, such as getting off the toilet, stepping into the shower or turning the taps, and whether an occupational therapist has been involved. If there is an OT report, send it with your enquiry and we will quote against it. We give clear and upfront pricing before any work begins, so you and your family can decide together.
If the person rents their home, NSW rules say a tenant needs the landlord’s written permission to make changes, and hand-held shower heads or lever-style taps fitted to assist elderly or disabled people are on the list of minor changes a landlord must not unreasonably refuse (NSW Government: making changes to a rental property).
