What a licensed gas fitter does

Gas fitting covers any work that connects to, moves, or supplies a gas line or a gas appliance. It is not general handyman work and it is not something to leave half finished. Here is what we handle:

  • Gas appliance installation: cooktops, ovens, stoves, gas heaters and outdoor connections, installed and tested so they run safely.
  • Cooktops and stoves: swapping an electric setup for gas, replacing an old unit, or connecting a new appliance during a kitchen renovation.
  • Gas leak detection and repairs: locating the source, isolating the supply, and repairing the line or fitting so it holds.
  • New gas lines and line replacement: running a new line for an appliance, extending a line during a build or extension, or replacing ageing pipework.
  • Gas hot water: connecting and servicing gas hot water systems, including upgrades and changeovers.
  • Compliance certificates: issuing the paperwork that confirms the work meets NSW safety standards.

Gas appliances we install and service

Whatever runs on gas in your home, we can supply, connect, service and certify it.

  • Gas cooktops and ovens: We supply, connect and certify gas cooktops, ovens and stoves, handle cooktop swaps, and fit bayonet fittings so a freestanding cooker can be moved or replaced without a fuss.
  • Gas heaters: We install flued and unflued gas space heaters, and we service and repair existing units. Every heater job includes a carbon monoxide safety check so nothing is spilling combustion products back into the room.
  • Gas fireplaces: We install gas fireplaces and their flue, including decorative log fires, so you get the look you are after with the gas side done safely and to code.
  • Gas hot water: We install and repair gas storage and continuous flow (instant) hot water units. For the full range of hot water options, see our hot water page at /hot-water-sydney/.
  • Gas BBQ and outdoor kitchens: We run a fixed gas line or fit a bayonet connection for a built-in BBQ, pizza oven or outdoor cooktop, so your outdoor kitchen is plumbed in properly rather than run off swap bottles.

LPG and natural gas

We work with both natural gas and LPG. Most homes on the mains run on natural gas, and we connect and certify appliances to that supply. For properties off the mains, we work with LPG (bottled gas), so a home without a natural gas connection can still run gas cooking, hot water and heating. Tell us what you are on and we will match the appliance and the fittings to it.

Gas compliance certificates in NSW

When gas work is carried out in NSW, a licensed gas fitter issues a Certificate of Compliance (a CoC Gas) confirming the work meets the relevant standards. New and altered gas appliances also carry a compliance plate or label recording who did the work and when.

For landlords, keeping gas installations safe and compliant is an ongoing obligation, so having the certificate and records in order protects you as well as your tenants. We issue compliance certificates where required and keep you across what has been done, so you are not left chasing paperwork after the job.

When would you need our Sydney gas fitting services?

Common situations where Sydney homeowners and businesses call us.

  • Moving or renovating a kitchen: relocating a cooktop or oven means the gas line has to be moved and reconnected by a licensed gas fitter.
  • Installing a new appliance: a new cooktop, heater, oven or hot water unit needs to be connected and tested before you use it.
  • You suspect a gas leak: a gas smell, a hissing sound near a line, or a gas bill that has jumped for no reason.
  • Upgrading hot water: switching to gas hot water, or replacing a unit that has had its day.
  • Building or extending: a new build or extension usually needs new gas lines run to the right points.
  • Pre-sale or pre-lease inspection: checking gas installations are safe and compliant before a property changes hands.

Compliance plate on appliances

All gas appliances installed in Australia must carry a regulatory compliance mark (formerly AGA approval). When we install an appliance, we verify it’s correctly marked for use in NSW and that the installation matches the manufacturer’s specifications — both are requirements for a valid CoC Gas.

Homeowner or landlord obligations

In NSW, landlords are required to ensure rental properties have safe and functional gas installations. While there is currently no mandated periodic inspection interval for residential gas in NSW (unlike some other states), we recommend a check every two years — and any time an appliance is replaced or the system is modified.
